This date is less than one year after the line to Sydney was opened.

 

The telegram message was long in that the charge was for 50 words.

In addition, the cost of 19s 4d was a very significant amount of money in the 1860s. Often such an amount would be charged to the recipient through the system of a Collect telegram. Perhaps Judges were paid handsomely even in those days :)
