Telegraph Offices opened either as a Telegraph Office (TO) or as a Post and Telegraph Office (P&T) in NSW before 1901. On 27 September 1861, the Colonial Treasurer (Mr. Weekes) said in the House: "the Government thought it desirable that the Office of Electric Telegraph and Post Office should be conducted in the same building and they intend to carry out this arrangement when circumstances enable them to do so". Then, in February 1870, Par;liament decided that Post Offices and Telegraph Offices were to be formally amalgamated in small towns.
A listing of Telegraph Offices (and Post and Telegraph Offices) in New South Wales to about 1900 is shown below. Hyperlinks lead to further details about that office.

An interesting Letter to the Editor of the Yass Courier of 11 July 1868 canvasses a number of issues which apply equally to most of the Post and/or Telegraph Offices in the NSW Colony and to offices in the other Colonies. Perhaps the main omission is a note that, where offices were staffed full--time (and not part of the local store or the Public House or Court House - as many so-called Telegraph Offices were), the officers in charge were generally on duty or call 24 hours per day for 7 days a week. They were totally supportive, through their positions, of the commerce and personal interests of their local community and the development of their regions.
