The Cape to Glenelg cable linked Durban at the Cape in South Africa to Mauritius, Rodriguez, Cocos Islands and Fremantle and thence across the Great Australian Bight to Adelaide.

The cable was constructed - after prolonged and vigorous negotiations - by the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company. It was completed in February 1902.
