Communications involving ships.

Communication with ships was a rapidly developing technology in which there were three types of system requirements:

  1. communication from shore to ship;
  2. communication from ship to shore;
  3. communication between ships at sea.

When the House of Representatives established the legislative and budgetary framework for Coastal Radio stations in 1909, it was envisaged that one component of the system would enable the transmission of private messages.

The first two of these
