New South Wales - Interim period: 1900 - 1912.
Urgent rate delivery envelope- NI-EU-1.

General characteristics:

Heading and notes:	Heading is URGENT TELEGRAM in an octagonal frame. Has form number ST. 7000.
Message area:	Blank but has a message about FEES in the lower left corner (see below).
Reverse side:	Rounded flap. Has Belt and Buckle decoration on the flap in black.
Colours (text & envelope):	Slightly dark pink.
Size of envelope overall:	88 × 145 mm.

Distinctive characteristics of the form:

has URGENT TELEGRAM in a double lined octagonal frame;
schedule number St. 7000 in the lower left corner together with a "NO FEES .." note in a double lined octagonal frame;
flap has curved sides and rounded peak.
no indication that this is an Interim period item but the usage indicates it was not available before Federation.
two covers are known used - one is cancelled at Wagga Wagga on 8 July 1920 and the other has no date indication.

New South Wales did not make provision for an Urgent rate when it was a Colony. The Urgent rate was only introduced after Federation.

The NSW design for its first Urgent rate delivery envelope is almost identical to that used in Victoria during the Interim period but with small differences - especially the inclusion of the Stores number and the absence of the full stop after TELEGRAM.

Characteristics:

top octagonal frame is 10 × 78 mm;

lower octagonal frame is 11 × 51 mm;

no full stop after TELEGRAM.

Seal on the flap has ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH OFFICE in a Belt & Buckle design.

Unusual inscription as the name had been changed in 1893.
