Communications from Australian bases in Antartica.

An essential aspect of the operation of Australia's bases in Antartica has always been the telegraphic link to the mainland.

Examples of the messages sent are shown below.

  • The message was addressed to the telegraphic code address ANTARTICA.
  • It was received on 13 August at OTC, sent through the Chief Telegraph Office and thence to the Antartica Planning Committee.
  • It was then forwarded to Glen Iris on 14 August. The TELEGRAPH OFFICE oval date stamp is possibly an unlisted Glen Iris oval.
